Ostrich

Ostrich

Ostriches are the largest birds in the world, but cannot fly. They are extremely good runners and can reach speeds of up to 70 km/h.

One male Ostrich can breed up to 5 females in his territory, those females will lay their eggs all in one nest, and then leave - letting the alpha female and male do the incubating, once the chicks hatch (in about 43 days) they might come back to help raise the chicks.

Ostriches are numerous at Jan Oelofse Safaris and can be seen in all the different types of habitat.

Males are Black and females are Greyish in colour.
